Viewing grades from parent view in Canvas

Canvas is our school's Learning Management System (LMS), or a software that manages our day-to-day academic activities.  Here, you can view all of your daughter's current courses, grades, assignments, etc..  If you want to view your daughter's current progress in a course, this is the place to go!

As parents, you are automatically connected as an observer to your daughter's in Canvas.  To log into Canvas, sign into your Veracross parent portal and click on the Canvas button.  Use the same credentials as Veracross to log in.

Once you're logged into Canvas, you'll be taken to your Observer Dashboard.  Here you can view all courses your daughter is currently enrolled in.  If you click into any of these cards, you will be able to view the details of that specific course.   You'll also notice any upcoming assignments are listed on the right side of the Dashboard.

If you scroll down the page, at the bottom, you will notice two sections.  First, feedback on specific assignments will be listed here.  Oftentimes teachers will grade assignments and provide feedback directly on the assignment; you can view that feedback here, and on the assignment itself within the course.  Second, "View Grades" will give you a snapshot of your daughter's grades in all of her classes.

When you go to view your daughter's grades, two things to consider.  You can view grades based on the semester; you can use the dropdown menu to toggle between semesters.  Also note that, at the beginning of semesters, grades may be lower as teachers load grades into Canvas.  If they're still low in a few weeks, it could be worth a conversation!
