Canvas sections within courses and viewing sections in Gradebook

You'll notice that all of your sections are combined into one Canvas course.  This is done because of the integration Canvas has with Veracross, and will allow for easier transfer of materials between sections.  In fact, you can assign the same assignment to different sections at different dates, if you program it appropriately! (Talk to Tyler about that!)

Section names are the Veracross course names, which aren't very intuitive, and you may want to rename them.  This article shows you how to update the names of your various sections within a course, and how to separate sections in your gradebook.

Log into Canvas, and let's organize.  Special thanks to Sue W for her Canvas class as the example below!

First, to rename the sections in your course:

1) Go to your Canvas course, and click on "Settings" on the local navigation on the left side.

2) Click on "Sections" at the top of the Settings screen

3) You'll have multiple sections now with course numbers.  These users will include the students and their parents (as observers). Click on a given section
4) Identify some students in the list from your Veracross roster, and click on "Edit Section".  When you do, the picture below will appear.  Edit the "Section Name" only to whatever you want it to be named, and click "Update Section."
5) Repeat for remaining sections, and viola!

Second, adjusting gradebooks to just show a given section.

In the gradebook, click on "Filter", and go to "Sections.  Click on a given section, and that section will appear only in the gradebook.
